In this movie, Dr. Kate is working temporarily in a small town that is very Christmassy. (Yes, you've seen this before. A lot.) Kevin is also there temporarily, staying with his parents and helping in Dad's hardware store while trying to figure out his next steps. (Yes, you've also seen this before.) One night, Kate and Kevin both receive a mysterious key and riddle on their doorstep, and they find themselves working together to solve a series of clues and puzzles that require them to do festive things. Somewhere in the midst of trimming the tree, decorating ornaments, and baking, they fall in love, and both decide to make their time in town permanent, after a huge misunderstanding of course.
This movie requires an incredible suspension of disbelief. Why do Kevin and Kate accept the random Christmas challenges so willingly? Can you really solve medical problems with Christmas spirit? What are the chances that Kevin and Kate get job offers via FaceTime at the exact same moment? When do they go to work?
Hallmark gets an A on: the scarves; the hair
Hallmark gets a D on : combining pyrotechnics and a Christmas tree lighting; having Kevin's parents behind the whole charade; the entire premise
Grade: C- * Note Grading Scale: A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season. B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend. C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun. D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not? F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
