A Christmas Carousel | B+

Writer's picture: IlovehallmarkmoviesIlovehallmarkmovies

Hallmark Channel Premiere | December 19, 2020

In this movie, Lila and her father are invited by the royal family of Ancadia to restore a Christmas carousel. There, Lila meets the prince, who has been working on the restoration and is a talented artist in his own right. As if restoring the carousel were not enough, Lila and Prince Whitaker also plan a Christmas art festival to impress a Duke and potential investor in the prince's new art school for children. Of course, all ends happily, as Lila and Prince Whitaker fall in love, the king decides that his son can marry a commoner after all, and the Duke embraces the Christmas spirit and invests in the school. To top it all off, Lila and her dad are offered new jobs in Ancadia on Christmas Eve so that they can stay forever.

In terms of royal movies about made-up countries where everyone has a British accent, this one is a winner. While I hate the name (Ancadia? Really?), I like the story, the scenery, and the characters. Even the woman who is supposed to marry the prince is not terrible.

Hallmark gets an A on: the scenery; the palace; the horses; the horse stable; the wardrobe; the dress; the Christmas Eve gala; the carousel

Hallmark gets a D on: the king; the prince's speech; the prince's very strange ride on the carousel

Grade: B+

* Note Grading Scale:

A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season.

B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend.

C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun.

D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not?

F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
