Hallmark Channel Premiere | October 31, 2020
I am a sucker for movies that feature royal families with British accents who come from made-up countries. As such, this movie did not disappoint. It was a sweet Christmas romance with clever writing and some truly funny moments.
Our male lead (Prince James, played by Aaron Tveit) is initially unlikeable but quickly becomes quite endearing. Oh- and he "minored in architecture." In the Hallmark world, this is even better than being royal.
Our female lead (Anna, played by Laura Osnes) is fantastic and has the most amazing wardrobe. A plus.
I was so close to giving this an A. And yet...I have some problems.
Problem # 1 - are you really snowed in if you can walk down to Main St., which is plowed, and enjoy a Christmas parade?
Problem # 2 - is choosing whether to have a pajama ball or a formal ball really such a difficult decision?
Problem # 3 - were the Galwick scenes filmed at Harry Potter World? I half expected him to slay a dragon as he went over the drawbridge into his styrofoam medieval castle.
Problem # 4 - I could have done without the Cinderella scene at the end.
Hallmark gets an A on: the banter; the humor; the Queen; the wardrobe; Aaron Tveit (James); Laura Osnes (Anna); the dress
Hallmark gets a D on: the overly-exuberant singing/ tree decorating; the corny caroling; the castle in Galwick; CGI snow; the castle in Galwick (it bears repeating because it was that bad)
Grade: B+
* Note Grading Scale:
A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season.
B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend.
C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun.
D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not?
F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
