In this movie, workaholic Avery is planning her Christmas wedding to workaholic fiancé Ben? Brian? Jake? (it doesn't really matter what his name is). When they decide to break up and cancel the wedding, Avery attends her wedding dance lessons anyway, and she meets instructor Roman. What follows is a sometimes sweet, sometimes awkward love story in which Avery learns to dance (sort of), Roman weirdly twirls in the street like he is in a Broadway musical, and Avery's ex-fiancé threatens Roman to add unnecessary drama.
This movie has so many things going for it - the two leads are great, the plot is fun, and Lacey Chabert is as likable as ever. However, something about it doesn't work. There is a lot of weirdness, and even the dance scenes that should be impressive are just strange. In addition, other than taking place at Christmas, it doesn't feel very Christmassy. Oh- and the ending? I think they were going for something as memorable as the final scene in Dirty Dancing, but this was nothing but cringe.
Hallmark gets an A on: Lacey Chabert (Avery); Will Kemp (Roman); the wardrobe; some of the dancing; Roman's family; the scarves
Hallmark gets a D on: the dancing in the street; Avery's family; the final scene
Grade: C
