My first thought about this movie is why is there so much snow in Nashville? My second thought: Dickens deserves better.
It's very difficult to pull off a good Christmas Carol knockoff. Most of them are silly, confusing, and full of eye-rolling puns and awkward time warps. This movie is no exception.
Vivienne is the producer of a popular country music Christmas special, and she lives with her younger sister in Nashville. Her mom left when she was young, and her dad likes to pretend that he is on exotic vacations by sitting in front of a green screen while Face-timing his kids. Vivienne grew up with Gavin, who made it big in LA and left her behind. Having forgotten how to enjoy life, she is visited by her old boss (deceased a la Jacob Marley), the ghost of Christmas past, and the ghost of Christmas present. Thankfully, the movie realized how bad it was, so we were spared the ghost of Christmas future.
Yes, there were cameos by some actual country music stars, but they couldn't save this movie from itself.
Hallmark gets an A on: Vivienne's white coat; most of the wardrobe choices; the dog
Hallmark gets a D on: the FaceTime calls with dad; attempting to remake a Christmas Carol with country accents
Grade: D * Note Grading Scale: A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season. B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend. C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun. D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not? F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
