Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Premiere | December 8, 2019

This is definitely not Amtrak

I am catching up to my DVR today and am so glad that I decided to start with Time For You To Come Home For Christmas. First - a note to Hallmark: I really enjoyed the Thursday-Sunday premiere schedule in which you premiered only one new movie each night. This doubling up every Saturday and Sunday is making life difficult. Because this movie aired on the same night as Christmas at Dollywood, I fear that people may have missed it, and that would be a shame.

In this movie, Katherine and her son return home for Christmas. It has been two years since Katherine's husband died, and she faces painful memories of Christmases past. Thankfully, she meets veteran Jack, who helps her navigate the holiday while confronting memories of his own.

I can usually tell within 10 minutes whether I am going to like a Hallmark movie or not, and this one had me in two. The flashback (often done poorly) is perfect, and it effectively sets you up for some actual feelings later on. The two leads are wonderful, and you will find yourself rooting for both of them. Furthermore, this movie is touching without hitting you over the head with a hammer, and while most Hallmark movies are 100% predictable, there is some intriguing mystery involved with this one.

Hallmark gets an A on: Alison Sweeney (Katherine); Lucas Bryant (Jack); the nod to servicemen and women; train travel (Hallmark trains are a step above actual trains, and I simply love it); meet cute; sentiment; skating; baking; mistletoe; old Christmas movie date; snow fort; Provincetown, VA (not a real place, but it should be)

Hallmark gets a D on: CGI snow

Grade: A

* Note Grading Scale:

A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season.

B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend.

C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun.

D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not?

F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
