Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Premiere | December 14, 2019
In this movie, widow Sara travels to a ranch in Montana to close a deal that must be completed before Christmas. Of course, her promotion to VP depends on it. In Montana, she meets rancher Travis, who looks just like Mike Rowe, the guy from Dirty Jobs. Travis needs a bank loan to save the ranch, and Sara's job is to help him with the finances.
My first thought about this movie is that Montana looks amazing. However, it turns out that they filmed in Canada, so Canada looks amazing, and Hallmark lies. My second thought is that I don't really see the connection between decorating for Christmas and securing a bank loan (and neither does Sara's boss). Despite this, I enjoyed the barn decorating, the Christmas shopping, and the tree cutting. Unfortunately, there was no baking in this movie, and I missed it. They really should have considered the baking cookies, throwing flour, icing-on-the-nose/near-kiss montage.
This movie is sweet and enjoyable. I like the setting and the characters, and it strikes the right tone for Christmas. The way that they save the ranch is kind of ridiculous, but it's a Hallmark kind of ridiculous.
Hallmark gets an A on: naming the town Bigfork; decorated horse barn; the difficult teenage daughter; Kellie Martin (Sara); Colin Ferguson (Travis); a relatively low tragedy factor; Christmas market; Christmas bonfire; horses; meteor shower; romance; Travis Sr.
Hallmark gets a D on: filming in Canada; no baking; the decorations might be just a tad too much?
