Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Premiere | November 23, 2019

In this movie, Peyton really wants to be an event planner, but she can't come up with a Christmas party theme. To distract her from her failure, she steps in to watch a friend's daughter so he can have emergency knee surgery. (Hallmark had to make it serious, but not too serious, so they went with the knee. Personally, I think appendicitis would have been a better choice, but that's just me.) Peyton teams up with old crush Ben, who is thinking about moving to Honduras. Oh- and there's a reindeer.
My biggest problem with this movie is the lack of conflict. Knee surgery? No party theme? Old crush moving away? None of these problems is compelling. Like I said, they should have gone with the appendix.
I did, however, enjoy the not-so-subtle commercial during the tree lighting scene. In case you missed this super awkward demonstration of Balsam Hill's LED Color + Clear lights, here's the information that you need: l https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbf5Z6wYULw
Or you can watch the movie, in which they demonstrate the feature several times so that they can "ooh" and "aah" near the Balsam Hill logo.

Hallmark gets an A on: occasionally funny dialogue; Ashley Williams; well-tied scarves; child actor
Hallmark gets a D on: CGI snow; medical advice (I call shenanigans on the need for emergency knee surgery); Christmas decor; wardrobe; the reindeer that is supposed to be symbolic but doesn't really work; incredibly fake CGI snowman (distracting); Ben adding logs to a gas fireplace (dangerous)
Grade: D
* Note Grading Scale:
A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season.
B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend.
C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun.
D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not?
F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
