Christmas at Dollywood deserves a B, but I'm giving Dolly an A

Hallmark Channel Premiere | December 8, 2019

This movie opens with Dolly Parton singing "Winter Wonderland" and has Dolly Christmas songs interspersed throughout. I love Dolly, and I smile whenever I hear her voice, so right away I'm pretty happy. By the time we get to "Hard Candy Christmas," I am singing along and smiling.
In this movie, event planner Rachel comes home to the Smokies to head up an event at Dollywood. There, she meets Luke, the operations manager who is determined to make the event a success. At first they step on each other's toes, but they soon find a way to work together and fall in love. These two are great together, and their story is believable and fun. I enjoy seeing Dollywood (my family's favorite amusement park), and the Christmas elements are incorporated without feeling forced. My only complaint is that we spend the entire movie waiting for Dolly, and she doesn't show up until about 1:45. Her appearance makes the entire movie worth it, though. There's just something about Dolly.

Hallmark gets an A on: Dollywood; Dolly music; Danica McKellar; promoting Danica McKellar's children's book; Niall Matter; yule log baking; ugly sweaters; wardrobe; Dolly's outfit; so much Dolly wisdom; the "one year later" ending; Dolly's Imagination Library
Hallmark gets a D on: that snowman; line dancing to "Deck the Halls"; not enough Dolly; the "Christmas in the Smokies" performance seems pretty terrible; the tree glitch seems way overblown
Grade: A (for Dolly)
* Note Grading Scale:
A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season.
B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend.
C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun.
D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not?
F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
