An okay Homecoming For The Holidays | C

Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Premiere | December 7, 2019

Methinks the wardrobe department recycled a dress from last year's A Shoe Addict's Christmas. The fact that I noticed this immediately tells me that I have a Hallmark problem. Intervention needed. Stat.

In this movie, country singer Charlotte comes home to Montana to welcome her soldier brother back from overseas. She spends a lot of time with Matt's friend, fellow-soldier Matt. Matt is our 215th orphan of the Hallmark Christmas season, and he's a huge fan of Charlotte's.

Charlotte uses her new-found fame to pay off her parents' house just before they decorate the tree for Christmas. Therefore, I plan to invite her to my house for tree decorating next year.

In all seriousness, this movie is pretty good. It's a solid C. The romance is fine, the story is solid, and the sentiment is there. The scarf-game, however, is seriously lacking. I suspect the scarf person was sick when they shot this one.

On another note, I am becoming concerned by the Hallmark body count this Christmas. I completely understand the occasional need for a character facing the death of a parent or spouse, but some of the characters this season are just orphans for no reason. It's concerning, and not very festive.

This should be a touching moment, but it sort of feels like a hostage situation.

Hallmark gets an A on: the dog; another great nod to our servicemen and women; cookie decorating; Laura Osnes (Charlotte); Stephen Huszar (Matt); singing

Hallmark gets a D on: the ex-boyfriend; scarf-tying; CGI snow

*I can't decide if the Reindeer Games are an A or a D. It really could go either way.

Grade: C

* Note Grading Scale:

A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season.

B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend.

C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun.

D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not?

F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
