This movie was great. I have very little snark to offer in this post, because I was able to sit back and enjoy the characters, story, romance, and Christmas spirit this time. Jerrika Hinton should definitely do more Hallmark movies, because she is fabulous. Not only that, but the story held my attention and gave me some smiles, laughs, and warm and fuzzy feelings. It was a great example of all of the things that Hallmark does best.
The best praise I can offer for this movie is that I am married to an architect, and he didn't hate it. Architects in Hallmark movies are often portrayed in highly stereotypical fashion. It's a profession that is romanticized, and it drives the architect in my house crazy. However, he watched this movie with me, and he agreed that it was pretty good. He even admitted that the terminology was accurate, and the story was realistic, at least by Hallmark standards. Trust me - this is high praise.
Hallmark gets an A on: Jerrika Hinton; Realistic storyline; Romantic scenes; Nothing that was over-the-top; Likeable characters; Story; Final scene
Hallmark gets a D on: Fake tree during the tree decorating scene, even though there was a real tree on top of their car before they went inside... not only that, but the tree was flocked. It was a complete distraction from what was otherwise a very good movie. I suspect Balsam Hill was involved in this decision, so I'll let it go.
Grade: A-
* Note Grading Scale:
A = This is seriously a good movie. It will remain on my DVR for the season.
B = Totally exceeded my expectations. I'm happy to recommend.
C = This is an average Hallmark movie. Good holiday fun.
D = I'm disappointed... but I watched it. Why not?
F = I actually had a hard time getting through this one. And that says a lot.
